His Holiness Pope Pius XII offered the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Then he solemnly proclaimed: It has been proved in this instance and for the purpose under consideration, that the theological virtues of Faith, Hope, Love of God and Neighbour, and the cardinal virtues, Prudence, Justice, Temperance, Fortitude and subordinate virtues of the Venerable Servant of God, Catherine Tekakwitha, were heroic.
Pope Pius XII signed the DECREE in which CATHERINE TEKAKWITHA was “VENERABLE.” In the Process of Catherine Tekakwitha’s Veneration, two cures that were considered miraculous, were discussed in considerable detail. Monica Caroll suffered so grievously from a curvature of her spine. In the summer of 1909, she was unable to walk and her mother decided to take her on a pilgrimage to the Shrine at Auriesville. Although she was eleven years old she had absolute faith in the Shrine and pleaded so hard to go that her mother brought her there. The brother-in-law of the mother aided the mother in taking care of her when going to the Shrine. After they got above the steps, each on her daughter’s side, her daughter walked to the chapel and seeming as though on account of her great faith that God gave her strength to walk. At the chapel a relic of Catherine Tekakwitha was applied to her back. When they reached home that she was fatigued, but in less than one week she was walking around as well as any child of her age. The other was in 1915 to a boy, Thomas Hughes and was suffering from a paralysis of the legs because of a degenerate disease of the joints. He was carried in the arms of his mother to the Shrine at Auriesville. The Father applied a relic of Catherine Tekakwitha to him. Then the Father suggested her to do the fourteen Stations of the Cross with her son in her arms. At each Station of the Cross she rested from carrying her son and prayed to Catherine Tekakwitha. Also, the Father said to say five prayers of the “Hail Mary” each day until she would observe an improvement from his sufferings. He was later cured from his degenerative disease. |
