Chaplet of the Blessed Catherine Tekakwitha

Home

The twenty-four beads portray Catherine Tekakwitha’s twenty-four years of her life in this world. Catherine Tekakwitha’s love to God was that she consumed her life from repeating three times these words, “Jesus, I love you” or in the Mohawk Iroquois language, “Ié:sos, konoronkwa.”
The first chaplet dedicated to the Blessed Catherine Tekakwitha was made by Francis Tsonnatouan. He had called the chaplet, “The Chaplet of Catherine” and was composed of an Apostles’ Creed that he said on the Cross, a bead for the “Our Father” and another bead for the “Hail Mary,” and with three other beads for each a “Glory be to the Father.” This little chaplet, which he kept around his neck until he died in 1695.

On April 16, 1972, Elizabeth Kisela devised the twenty-four-bead chaplet of the Blessed Catherine Tekakwitha. On December 11, 2005, the twenty-four-bead chaplet of the Blessed Catherine Tekakwitha was elaborated to include the Mysteries.

HOW TO PRAY THE CHAPLET

Say: “Jesus, I love you” every time before kissing the Cross on each of the three nails that crucified Jesus Christ, and make the sign of the Cross with the crucifix, saying: “In the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.” Then say the “Apostles’ Creed” on the Cross.

Announce the First Mystery. Then say the “Our Father” on each of the first eight beads.

Announce the Second Mystery. Then say the “Hail Mary” on each bead from the ninth to the sixteenth bead.

Announce the Third Mystery. Then say the “Glory Be to the Father” on each bead from the seventeenth to twenty-forth bead.

Again say: “Jesus, I love you” every time before kissing the Cross on each of the three nails that crucified Jesus Christ, and make the sign of the Cross with the crucifix, saying: “In the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”

The GLORIOUS MYSTERIES are said on Sunday and Thursday; the JOYFUL MYSTERIES are said on Monday and Friday; the LUMINOUS MYSTERIES are said on Tuesday and Saturday; the SORROWFUL MYSTERIES are said on Wednesday.

FIRST JOYFUL MYSTERY
HER VOYAGE
God had guided the Saints along roads unknown to men and guided her to the Sault in an extraordinary manner.

SECOND JOYFUL MYSTERY
HER VOW OF CHASTITY
She had renounced marriage forever with a vow of perpetual virginity for Jesus Christ.

THIRD JOYFUL MYSTERY
HER PRESENTATION
She had begged Him to be her only Spouse and accept her as His bride. Then she made a double consecration in one single act that is, offering herself entirely to Mary and instantly having Her to be her Mother and accept her as Her daughter.

FIRST SORROWFUL MYSTERY
HER LAST HOLY COMMUNION
She had gathered all her strength to make well this last Holy Communion. She testified of her poverty, because it was so great that she had nothing to cover her modestly for Holy Communion, which had attracted everyone in the village when the Blessed Sacrament was brought to her.

SECOND SORROWFUL MYSTERY
HER AGONY
After their return, she waited until everyone entered the cabin, which I saw this marvel with my own eyes. When the last one had arrived, she went into her agony and while everyone knelt around her.

THIRD SORROWFUL MYSTERY
HER HOLY DEATH
A short half hour after her agony that she had pronounced the Holy Names, “Jesus! Mary!” Then a slight spasm had come about the right side of her mouth and she entirely lost the vigour of speech. She died as if she was falling asleep.

FIRST GLORIOUS MYSTERY
HER RISEN GLORY
On the sixth day after her death, she appeared to him. She was surrounded with glory in a majestic manner and her shining face was lifted to Heaven as if in ecstasy. He had seen her as a rising sun.

SECOND GLORIOUS MYSTERY
HER TRIUMPH
Her upper body was as bright as the sun and I saw only her face that was of an extraordinary beauty, and the Cross she carried in her hand was so beautiful and gave forth more brilliant light than all the rest.

THIRD GLORIOUS MYSTERY
HER HEALINGS
The healing power that would emanate from her grave began with joy and soon spread beyond the village.

FIRST LUMINOUS MYSTERY
HER BAPTISM
On the Feast of the Resurrection that he baptized her as she knelt in the presence of all the Christians from the village.

SECOND LUMINOUS MYSTERY
HER PROCLAMATION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD
Her tongue spoke from the depths of her heart, because it was filled with admiration, veneration and tenderness for her incomparable Mother, who was her refuge in everything and she attempted earnestly to imitate Her.

THIRD LUMINOUS MYSTERY
HER TRANSFIGURATION
Her face had suddenly transfigured about a quarter of an hour after her death and became in a moment so beautiful, smiling and white. Her face assumed an appearance of a rosy colour, which she never had and her features were not the same.

Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father
almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only
Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power
of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified,
died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day He rose again.
He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the
right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the
resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Our Father
Our Father,
Who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory Be
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to
the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning
is now and ever shall be world without end. Amen.
